A short distance from the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, you’ll find the Arch of Augustus, a city gate in the form of a triple-arched structure and the quintessential symbol of Fano. The gate marks the entrance to the city and is one of the best-preserved Roman monuments in all of the Marche region. The Pincio area, just beyond the Arch of Augustus, is one of the most picturesque spots in town; here, you can visit the Church of St. Michael, the Statue of Caesar Octavian Augustus, and Porta Maggiore, a true marvel enhanced by night lighting and the urban redevelopment carried out in recent years.
